Leveraging Growth Opportunities Through Improved Workflow Systems

Dave Erwin, SVP Market Development

Our primary business is document delivery and with over 4,000 customers nationwide, we have had our fair share of challenges. However, we have created an infrastructure that supports operational workflows that deliver the quality and performance our customers demand. And as a quality organization, we always look for a better way to do things. Continuous process improvement is not just a term at NCP; it is a part of the very fabric of who we are.

Over the last 18 months, the economic downturn has absolutely affected our business. Instead of sitting on the sidelines and waiting it out, we determined it was the right time to position ourselves for the future – we conducted a complete technology assessment of our operations. We looked at all of our technology comparing what it is to what will be commercially available. We looked at printing and fulfillment technologies, document composition systems, workflow systems and more. We particularly focused on improving the performance of our workflow systems, as it offered the quickest return to our customers and ourselves.

As a result, we determined we needed to further our partnership with Solimar Systems, a leading developer of enterprise output management solutions for digital document creation, production and distribution environments.

"We enjoy our relationship with the folks at NCP", states Mary Ann Rowan, Vice President of Solimar Systems, Inc. "NCP has been a longstanding client of Solimar's print management solution and they've recently expanded their facilities to include highly automated and trackable workflows to better serve their customers. NCP gained great flexibility in being able to accept and optimize virtually all types of applications and file formats for multi-channel distribution. We're excited for their growth potential."

We were already using the Solimar® Print Director™ system to drive our printers but we were limited. By upgrading to the Enterprise edition we now have a more comprehensive print management solution that centralizes our job management workflows, reduces the reliance on resource and image libraries and improves our distributed print and disaster recovery capabilities. It’s also scalable. The Solimar Print Director Enterprise (SPDE) system will allow NCP to easily plug-in or integrate various print output devices as our customers’ needs arise. From black & white to MICR to full-color, SPDE can help us drive them all.

In addition, we added the Rubika™ module, a document re-engineering system. Rubika™ enables data processing to be performed on fully-composed jobs, such as PDF, allowing document composition to occur outside our four walls. NCP can take the composed PDF output and build in our operational and security controls while optimizing postage. We do this all under the SAS 70 II audited operational processes. Rubika™ also will create operating efficiencies by collating files containing information common to a particular set of criteria.

This is just the beginning! These are exciting times at NCP and we welcome the challenges put before us by our customers and the markets we serve. If you are a customer I want to personally thank you for your business and would ask you to stay tuned as we will be adding more product, service and technology offerings in the very near future.  If you are not a customer, I would ask that you give us the opportunity to prove that making a decision to do business with NCP is a good one.
